There was a time when Viktor Pavlik almost disappeared from the scene, went into the shadows – but it seems that it allowed him to feel more at ease. For example, in 2010 he suddenly appeared in
Ihor Zakus' project
– "The Ukrainian Bass Song". And now – Pavlik has come back with the album in English. Moreover, the album is recorded in a style rather unusual for him – more precisely, it is closer to the early period of his work, back when he was associated with the band
"Anna-Maria". It would be an exaggeration to speak of clear jazz allusions (although there are some) – but it's definitely different from the "outright" Ukrainian variety art, for the better. After all, these are different musicians, completely different experience – and, sure, different objectives. There is the feeling that the album was created mainly for the guys' own fun – and this must be right. By the way, perhaps, this is because there are not only translations of the best songs by Pavlik of various years, but also some nice covers of world hits. In short, it is great when our pop music performed by the older generation starts sounding this way. In that, there is some… sense.
