Silvestrov is a composer-innovator who is well known not only in Ukraine. Some years ago he became a laureate of international contests, for example, in the USA and the Netherlands. His "Meditation" is a symphony for a violoncello and a chamber orchestra. Meditation in a general sense is a state, a process and quality at the same time. Since a symphony is called to reproduce and to recreate the first, the second and the third (don’t forget about fruit compote!), it is hopeless to reproduce the content. This music… is in a glass half-filled with water, and there’s a border that both joins and separates water and air in the glass. This border doesn’t belong to any of these two parts – it belongs to both of them. This music lives between molecules of the music we’ve got used to. It joins them and – separates. That’s why one should not listen to it on the move, reading a newspaper and eating a cutlet at the same time. Be more careful, please.
