Note! Right now, a special offer is available from the website, where you can get this disc as a present: umka.com/eng/news (gift offer is unavailable during all discount sales) Mad Heads XL, as you see, are Mad Heads back again. This does not mean a return to psychobilly, where everything started sometime but this time there is also no ethno-ska, which so many people came to love due to the very successful project "UkrainSKA." The eighth numbered album by the group in some sense summarizes their previous achievements without strongly attaching itself to them. It seems that the musicians just played the songs as they wished, and, due to all their previous experience, it turned out multicolored. That is, there are elements of both rockabilly, ska, and ethno, and honest rock without frills but there is no issue of purity of style, everything just works for the sake of the resulting drive. Works well, despite the explicit lyricism of most of the lyrics, the music adds nuance and the lyrics sound not that straightforward sometimes. So it is more interesting. Well, and there are the songs that even in this dense, not too homogeneous mixture stand out for example, "Young Blood" is the second one, but it sounds so that there is the persistent feeling: in actual fact, the album begins with it. Or a comment on the other side: there are 17 tracks here, and it seems to be a lot but the album simply flies in one breath, one does not really notice this number. What does it mean?

With this music there are all the chances to swim to the summer almost unnoticeably, without straining where this is not needed. Ukrainian reggae with a mischievous smile and a hardened core. Just put on repeat so much so that your hand reaches out for that and you should not interfere with it.

Luiku is rather ironic dance music with a very pronounced folk component, the accelerated Ukrainian gypsy romance supplemented with Turkish, Polish, Romanian, and Hungarian lines. The music, besides being catchy (although there are also a couple of relaxed pieces), is also very, so to speak, convex.

..there is so much drive that one can hardly believe its "acousticity". And one of the causes of such sound is the truly rich set of instruments used by the musicians during the recording (guitar, banjo, harmonica, kazoo, ukulele, flute, kozobass, xylophone, etc.). Very rich and bright just like always with "Ot Vinta"..

..the sound of Dzidzio, to some extent, can be seen as witty banter with reference to the early Skryabin but, since it's music with a smile, do not look for the neoromantic haze here. Rather, it resembles ironic exercises by Braty Hadyukiny. And if you look a little bit closer, songs by Dzidzio resemble kolomyika...

As far as we know this is the first album in Ukraine (at least, among officially released ones) dedicated to bikers. Dedicated not only formally, but also thematically. However, the disc "Biker Sich" has been released just recently but it was a collection of favorite songs, not the author's dedication album. A significant difference.

It is very cool that Antin Muharsky has not abandoned his field research of rural glamour in the Ukrainian context. Moreover it seems that he has decided to undertake for this good cause a real family contract. But the main thing is that Muharsky has again succeeded in adding to the dozen of songs of the album a double portion of positive pepper..

Babkin manages to avoid profanity: his music had became lighter, but not primitive, the lyrics have become more concise but have not slipped into nonsense (besides for the first time! all songs of the album are in Ukrainian), in the end, the scale of the artist has changed, which is perceived in the way it is presented.

The first thing that catches the eye is the musicians' regard to the pop rock aesthetics of the 1980's and the 2000's. It's not about copying as such but this almost-retro flavor works as a properly selected spice: it helps to open up the base. Well, and the base is the ability to create good melodies and expressive arrangements..

The new album by Antytila was released unexpectedly quickly but the title "Sun" seems to imply that there was no need to wait, that the time came. Or were the new songs so much burning inside that one had to release them as soon as possible? However, the cover of "People Like Ships" by Skryabin here may indicate at something quite different

On the one hand, there is a bunch of components in the musical canvas, and participation of jazz musicians, a children's choir, or a full-fledged brass section emphasize that the arrangements turn out diverse. On the other there is still the feeling as if you listen to an album sung just with the guitar. However, it is rather an advantage...

Green Grey decided not to abandon the combination of electronic music with rock aesthetics though, now there is somehow more of the latter, so one can hardly attribute this music to the light one. The elements of dubstep and hardcore are far not the only ones in this puzzle...

"NedaremnO" tries to sound different. Not too "trimmed" and it has its advantages, because lack of syrup makes the taste much more honest. There is some special drive that young groups had in abundance 10 to 20 years ago, but which many of the current "novices" often lack.

...the sound appears really clear, light, and sometimes almost fragile. The main thing is that this music is not committed to a certain style, but rather to a certain brand, a quality of expression. So, if for the sake of this quality one needs to add some atypical colors it happens in an easy and natural way. Such a cool simplicity. At the same time it is a team play, in which no one pulls the blanket over himself.

The "Radioheaven" project is a good example of rock music created just for the love of the process, not for any mercenary considerations. Thus, there is no cheap epatage, adolescent humor and disregard for detail in the sounding. While there is a quest for their own path, self-respect and, at the same time, self-irony.

...the trademark self-irony is still there. To make sure the first song from the album will be enough. Though, indeed, the rest of the songs also meet this sort of a definition: irony plus clownery. The Britalin really pleases both with the level of performance, and arrangements. The lyrics are not deprived of some sense either, and sometimes they are quite provocative it is nice. And, moreover, there are two leading vocals at once male and female and that diversifies the sound and adds a certain semantic intrigue.

...A sort of an album of ballads. If you do not listen attentively it seems very balanced. But when you are attentive that is when the second bottom opens: it is an album of deep feelings, bright experiences and, at the same time, quiet reflections. ..the impression is that Dilya has finally discovered and realized what he aspires to in actual fact. The impression is that "Fortissimo" is currently not only the best of his albums, but also one of the best pop-rock albums of the recent time in general. It resembles a picture drawn with wide strokes, skillfully and freely, with passion but also a lot of attention to nuances.

..the group performs cheerful rock with admixtures of pop punk and the aftertaste of hippy aesthetics. And it appears, really, sunny and positive even though humor is far not the key (although noticeable enough) constituent of the songs' lyrics. This, in the end, is nice because there are now more and more groups that try to joke, while we hardly witness more jokes)

"Sertsevy Napad" is only five years old, and now you see the first official album by the group. The very first sounds with which this disc starts inspire quite a stable association with rock music of the 1960s and 1980s actually, a pleasant association.
