In sacred art works, Ukrainians present themselves as cheerful people enchanted with their land. Bright colors and floral designs in Ukrainian icons mitigate strictness of Byzantine canons, and dramatic images in them transform into rather melancholic ones. The ability to reconsider various influences has contributed to not only creating the original art rich in schools and trends, but has also helped Ukrainians to maintain their identity.
The proposed publication intends, based on its rich illustrative material, to draw the reader's attention to the Ukrainian sacred painting art as a specific phenomenon of the European culture in the artistic and religious dimensions.
The book's focus will be interesting not only for researchers in arts, culture, religious studies, and in theology, but also for all those not indifferent to the Ukrainian arts and culture."
