Valerij Marenych. Hen, na uzlissi khrest movchyt‘... (live). (There, the cross keeps silent on the edge of a wood...)
Valeriy Marenych – is one of those singers, who gain their audience due to persistent work rather than due to talent. Meaning that we talk here neither about the great amount of video, nor about bombastic PR campaign. No, it’s not what we mean. Especially, since the trio has split up. Only concerts, again and again – what is, actually, a natural way of musician’s development. And Marenych here, as it is said, is in his place. Perhaps, this is because he knows how to choose the right song, while it’s a well-known fact, that he is the author of music. So naturally, he’s a central figure among the bards. He can even be called a patriarch and it would not be an exaggeration. As for the record available on this disc - it is unique. At least because it is a concert version. And can you remember any Marenychi’s concert records of the trio, or the solo ones? I think, you can hardly remember any - unfortunately. In addition, there is one more detail for those, who have already heard the album "Songs of Volyn’ authors". The motif of the mentioned disc is not repeated in the new one, but continued and developed – a half of these songs was not included into the previous album. So, this will be the first time you hear them – of course, if you have never been to their concerts. And they are worth to be listened to, because we still have wonderful poetry, and undoubtedly Valeriy Marenych is a skillful musician.

Ihor Bilyi. Ya – ne lyalka. /digi-pack/. (I Am Not a Puppet)

Actually, this is the author's album – Igor Bily is the author of all the lyrics, and he did not organize any band to that end. All the songs are for two guitars. Concise, clear, and simple enough. However, the key emphasis is still on the lyrics – it is worth listening, hearing, and understanding. Attentive songs are always relevant.

Volodymyr Shynkaruk. Shestystrunnyy doshch. Vam, molodym... (Six-String Rain. For you, the young...)

...if the inner world of a person is multidimensional – it is possible to wander in these dimensions infinitely, and about each of them it is possible to tell some story. Volodymyr Shynkaruk seems to have in store an infinite number of such histories – and he knows how to tell them honestly, deeply, interestingly. So that at a certain instant his stories become – your own.
Domestic price: 306.60UAH, International price: $21.90USD

Volodymyr Shynkaruk. Perekoty-nebo. (TumbleSky)

This seems to be that very bardic song, although in the sounding there is now more transparent, delicate sense, which is conveyed not with words, but exactly with music. But at the same time, the word has not become less significant. As it should be when the issue is intelligent, thought over, internally experienced texts, not just rhymed lines of certain meters.

Eduard Drach. Nebo Ukrajiny.

Edward Drach appeals to the Kyivska Rus history either in strict historical or at a poetic foreshortening at least in this album. Actually, that is what he us a poet for. More precisely - the bard.

Serhij Moroz. Jarij, Dushe...

Olexandr Ihnatusha. Bily vovk. /digi-pack/. (White Wolve)

At a certain moment it seems as if you were listening not to a simple musical album, but to a collection of songs from films. From old and kind films about love, striving, laugh and tears, nonsense and serious questions of life.
Domestic price: 348.60UAH, International price: $24.90USD

Yuriy Yatsenko's "Kapelysta Muzyka", Yevhenia Miroshnychenko. Favorite Ukrainian melodies. /cassette/.

Tina Karol. Intonatsii. /mini-pack/. (Intonations)

This album is a response to expectations of everyone who realized that Tina Karol was capable of much more than what she had so far demonstrated. Stuff of that kind was something that not only Tina, but the entire Ukrainian "first echelon pop scene" missed. A test (for herself and her habitual audience), a pilot..

Tonya Matvienko. Smiyutsia, plachut solovyi. (studio live). /digi-pack/. (Nightingales Laugh and Cry)

Given the rapid development of Tonya's music career lately – it is even surprising that the album has been released only now. On the other hand, it could mean that she did not disregard the possibility of more thorough handling of the material. And the result deserves attention due to its..

Liutsyna Khvorost. Solodko-hirkyi romans. /digi-pack/. (Bittersweet Romance)

Anyway, the album turns out really atmospheric – it seems to invite to recall the past, but at the same time goes slightly beyond time limits. Because Lucyna's songs are about stories that occur at all times – where there are two people and something between them..

"Rushnychok" Ensemble. Solov'jina Ukrajina.

This ensemble, which is actually a duet, performs the most popular Ukrainian folk songs. But – pay attention – an academic vocal performance sounds here. As for the musical accompaniment, it is not academic at all. That’s why this disc is meant for those listeners who do not like opera so much, but listen to a beautiful and skilful singing with great pleasure.

Valerij Marenych is wonderfully easy to listen to with his guitar and harmonica playing, along with his singing. Most is gentle music, making it very pleasant to the ears. I will enjoy this CD for many, many years.
