In the collection of fairy tales "Evil spirits" the author decided to refresh his childhood memories, to look at folk characters, the representatives of "unreal, invisible world" from a new viewpoint, to give unusual characteristics of Ukrainian mythological figures and "evil spirits" in particular. In his foreword to the book Vasyl Koroliv-Staryy wrote the following: "No matter that intellectual people smile a good natured smile when it comes to "evil spirits". No matter that nowadays you can hardly find an educated person who would believe in any devilry. Even then, the most intelligent and the most educated person recalls devil or any other "evil spirit" at least for the sake of expression. Commonly these are swear words, empty sounds that have no sense. So if we cannot get rid of devilry in our world isn’t it better to tell the children about it as about the powers of nature, neither evil nor hostile?! I am not a pedagogue, and probably I’m wrong. So, this book of fairy tales is the result of my mistake and here I dare to defend ,first of all, our Ukrainian "evil spirits and powers" as I consider them less dangerous then other "powers" which, unfortunately, are not called "evil""
