Ukraine, Russia, Israel, the USA, Ethiopia, Thailand, Scotland... The international New York group founded in 1999 by the former Kyivite Evgen Hudz, "Gogol Bordello" already with its very existence brightly reminds that the Earth is round, and all path lead to the top of Meru. Sure, if one follows these paths... During the recent years, Gogol Bordello has become, probably, one of the most popular eccentric bands in the entire world – while it plays not quite, so to speak, commercial music. Though, on the other hand, in these songs so much is mixed that the definition "gipsy ska-punk" does not convey even a half of it. It is a mixture of colors from such a number of cultures that literally millions of people can hear – and they do hear, gladly – in this music something of theirs, native. Authentic... And it is mixed in such a cool, talented way that the mixture can easily please even those who have never heard about Gogol Bordello (strangely enough), and believe that "ska-punk" is a definition of something brutal. Because the key feature of music by Gogol Bordello, without regard to all definitions, is not simply some thoughtless reckless drive, but – deep lyrical force... ...do you feel the difference? Anton Jozhik Leyba (Hedgehog)

Today it is called Severe Ukrainianization. Because one can definitely say: this punk chanson does not care about tolerance, its objective is to extract to light of the day all the obsolete cliches and to pretty well trample on them. In a loud, energetic way – and with such joyful rage that will make one either writhe, or eventually start laughing and recover...

..Anyway, the album "And I am not a Moscovite" convincingly illustrates how cleverly one can make fun of the Soviet influence and chanson (in the post-Soviet sense) miasma in the modern Ukrainian culture without resorting to brutal methods. Well, almost without it. Only by irony and, above all, self-irony – sometimes quite tough...

This recording is the case of an exclusive creative collaboration of two personalities significant for the modern Ukrainian culture. It is a pity that Les Podervyansky does not sing here. Instead, Oleh Skrypka actively participates in duping the plays, and this creates an additional comic and grotesque effect.. Published for the first time.

The album is really queer, its style is "for one’s soul". To the question "for whose one?" we answer: a hippie’s one, whatever this word may mean. It is a man's dialogue with the air, when the woman has already left, but her image is still melting in the mirror. And you are in the middle of all that – what other explanations do you need? There is nothing. A hangover philosophical song.

This disc creates its own specific atmosphere, tender and impudent at the same time, it smells the streets, along which maidens defile dressed in clothes you can not see in our time. You know, this is a very pleasant feeling – the feeling of presence which appears while listening to this disc.

Possibly, Andrukhovych did not exaggerate too much when he said that he did not expect any significant external resonance from his work with Karbido – he just had a lot of fun in the process. But sells-out during the whole "cinnamon" tour – are already a fact, and a pleasant one. Because it proves once again that the "underground" in the today's culture is not dust-covered nooks of outsider...
