There is some general impression of this entire story. A simple impression. Thank God, there still exist people on the earth who in contrast to most of us not only listen to songs. These are the people who sing. These are the people who make recordings.
The thing is that as far as I have understood this is the only audio recording of the last lyre player from Ukrainian Polissya. This recording was made in 1968 – 1969, when the equipment was far from being perfect (it was recorded at reel-type magnetic films). As you can understand, because of that the recording itself is not perfect either, but I think that this fact will not frighten or stop those who are really interested. After all, the material presented at this disc is unique. The tradition disappeared with the death of Ivan Vlasyuk, whose performance is recorded here. This is the way the things go. So, this disc gives us the only chance to hear how it really used to be. And whereas the repertoire of this performer is quite diverse, his performance is highly skilful and he knows the material well, this is a valuable present for all admirers and for those, who are looking for something interesting. Besides, the booklet contains a detailed and interesting information both on lyre playing in general and Ivan Vlasyuk in particular. It also contains the lyrics of all compositions recorded. I strongly recommend you to listen to this disc.
