A screen version of the opera by Mykola Lysenko created based on the same name play by Ivan Kotlyarevsky.
The Ukrainian girl Natalka misses her beloved Petro, who searches for better fortunes in strange lands. Once Vyborny comes to the house of Terpelyha to engage the girl with the local master Vozny. Natalka feels repulsion to the old master, and Petro seems to feel that he might come late, so he hurries back to the native land..."
