Dmitry "Bobeen" Alexandrov

- Dmitry "Bobeen" Alexandrov has been remaining the best tenor-sax player in Ukraine. For years, for sure. Either in the eyes of numerous critics, musicians or listeners.
He's a founder and leader of a Skhid-Side band (Volodymyr Shabaltas (guitar), Illya Yeresko (piano), Oleksandr Lebedenko (drums), Valentyn Korniyenko (double-bass) and Dmitry Alexandrov, tenor saxophonist) which has already become fabulous in our national jazz history.
There's more than a dozen world-class jazz musicians, including Randy Brecker and Mark Soskin, who highly appraised the level of Dmitry's performing.
Besides the fact that Alexandrov has mastered his instrument in a gracious and consummate way he has proved to be a talented teacher.

Dmitry Alexandrov was born December, 27, 1973 in Kharkiv, Ukraine. That's where he got elementary and secondary musical education. At the age of 15 he entered Kharkiv Musical College where he took a saxophone for the first time in his life and showed such zeal, eagerness and love to the instrument that this very year became a prize-winner at a Donetsk (Ukraine) musical contest and, at 16, an awardee at a Kiev one.
1992 Dmitry was enrolled to the Rostov-on-Don music conservatory (this educational establishment is known to be one of the most respected jazz centers in the CIS). Soon after he transfers to the Kharkiv Art College to proceed studying.
1995 Alexandrov founds Skhid Side band which in several years was to become one of the most original and professional jazz ensembles in Ukraine.
Since 1996 Alexandrov has toured a lot, with Russia, Great Britain, Spain, Poland, Lithuania and Germany among the visited countries.

There's been a whole bunch of jazz celebrities with whom Dmitry happened to perform. Igor Butman, Leszek Mozdzer, Goetz Gruenberg, Vladimir Nesterenko, Marlon Jordan, Jerald Hayes, Kim Plainfield, Josef Ametsbihler, Mark Soskin, Randy Brecker, Adam Pieronczik, Mark Gilmour, "Gabin", "De Phazz" to name a few.

Alexandrov is an author and participant of several projects, amongst which there is a salsa-playing band, modern jazz group and mainstream ensembles - quartets, trios and combos: Z-Band, Kaktus Fresh, UpSide 3, VSH-Ensemble, Kiev Salsa Kings; as a sidemen - with Igor Zakus, LoTus, Rosava, TNMK, Yelena Popova etc. At the time Dmitry's working out an idea of a completely new an authentic project, musically based on original Ukrainian tunes.

Dmitry "Bobeen" Alexandrov, Mark Soskin, Andrew Arnautov, Alex Fantaev. Skhid-Side meets Mark Soskin. (live).

Everything coincides on that spring evening the mood, energy, mastery. And the internal freedom of people who came together to once again create a common language... And we could describe the swift and lyrical Aleksandrov, the artistic Fantaev, thoughtful and easy-going Arnautov, light and deep at the same time Soskin, but music lies in different thing...

Dmitry "Bobeen" Alexandrov, Jazz Atmosphere. Time After Break.

On the one hand, there seems no be nothing superfluous even Aleksandrov, oddly enough, has not added too much pepper, even though he knows how to do it at the level of "excellent". And on the other the organism works so smoothly, without failures, that the entire album literary flies at one breath...

Sax kolo live. (DVD).

...saxophonists were involved into this concert seven from among the best ones. However, the division into the best vs. the worst in this case can be only conditional and subjective as the musicians represented works of absolutely different styles, from avant-garde to pop-jazz. Thus, the concert does not create any hierarchy, but rather offers an opportunity to find out the modern state of the art.
