Hnatiuk received her PhD in Ukrainian Literature from Warsaw University in 1992. She was a Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute Shklar Fellow in 2001-2002. Dr. Hnatiuk is Professor in Culture Studies at Warsaw University, and since 2010 she is Adjunct Professor at Kyiv Mohyla Academy, Head of the Master’s Program in the History Department, Coordinator of the Joint Master’s Program of Kyiv Mohyla Academy with Warsaw University. From 2000-2005 she was Associate Professor at OBTA, Warsaw Universify, and from 1997-2011 she served as Head of the Department of Ukrainian Literature at the Institute of Slavic Languages at the Polish Academy of Sciences.
In 2006-2010, Dr. Aleksandra Hnatiuk served in the Diplomatic Corps of Poland as First-Counsellor, Head of Science, Education and Culture Department at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine. She is the recipient of numerous awards, among them, the Polcul Foundation Award for activities aimed at fostering Polish-Ukrainian Cooperation in Culture, Przeglad Wschodni Award in 2004 (Warsaw), Jerzy Giedroyc Award in Humanities in 2004, Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin, the Antonovych Foundation Award in 2010, and most recently, the Polonia Restituta Award - the Republic of Poland State Award in 2012.
