At the beginning of 2012, a "Great Adventure" happened to the band "Haydamaky": creative prospects and, hence, the outlook of Olexander Yarmola (the frontman) and the rest of the group's musicians drifted radically and permanently apart. As a result, Olexander Yarmola retained the name "Haidamaky" and recruited new musicians. While the former composition, now led by Ivan Lenyo, took the name of "Kozak System" – and, for the exception of Yarmola, remained unchanged. "Saber" is the debut work of the transformed group. Thus, offering to your attention both its new face, and its great experience at the same time. Sounds interesting in its own way – for another frontman means, at least, another manner, and in this case it is worth mentioning that Ivan Lenyo plays both the accordion and keyboard in parallel. On the other hand – it is the same energy that was so abundant in the first albums by "Haidamaky", but multiplied by the desire to decently resolve the complicated situation. As a result – "Kozak System" offers a bright mixture of modern ( Zhadan, Polozhynsky, Lazutkin, Izdryk, etc.) and folk poetry, powerful rock, ska-punk with insertions of reggae, and everything is kept together by the serious frame of the Ukrainian folk root. In short - you should meet them again. And a few more details: the album includes covers by Kozak System of "Ace of Spades" by Motor Head and "Hey, Ivane" by Braty Hadyukiny. In the song "Getup, Standup", the cimbalist from the Perkalaba band Volodymyr Shoturma plays. In the song based on the folk lyrics "A vzhe tomu 7 rik bude", Katya Chilly sings, in "Pro Andriya" – Andriy Sereda from "Komu Vnyz". The song "Voron", composed by the group and inspired by the novel "Zalyshenets" by Vasyl Shklyar – is performed by the drummer of Kozak System.

...cocktails by Gogol Bordello become more transparent. Not so much quiet, rather – more considered, balanced internally. It seems to be a carnival of weird masks, behind which the simple idea lurks: no one makes you agree to everyday mediocrity. You can do it – otherwise.

Perkalaba unexpectedly, without any announcement produced its third album. Well, and it was right to do that – it has been long time already that we've been willing to hear something new from the spheres of absurd folk, and Perkalaba still stays virtually the main Ukrainian guide in the wilderness of these unexplored paths and ladders.

Yurcash really was not going to disappoint all those whom he managed to surprise so positively. The second album is also a sort of a "hodgepodge" of different, almost incompatible styles and moods, from hardcore to acid chanson. Though, there are now fewer "heavy" music remarks – however, it does not seem to be a severe loss. And the banter in the texts – has become more varied, diversified.

...the first album is a convincing evidence of the fact that this group is capable of making experiments deeply and finely through mixing ethno, acid, trance, rock and fly-agaric and at the same time remembering the taste. Perkalaba has managed what seems impossible – to merge folk-ska and psychedelics, not forgetting about banter as well. Both in music and in the lyrics. Movement in this direction took place before, but now it has acquired even brighter, more expressive features. And this, you know, takes you away. If it goes on...

The group "VV" has recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of their creative life – and have released a new album. The age is respectable not only for a group – even for a person it is already quite a lot. One can – and should – sum up some results and draw conclusions. Actually, the album "There Were the Days" has become this kind of summarizing.

The overwhelming majority of songs are Ukrainian folk songs known to everybody. But you may never have heard them being performed in such a manner so far. If we mix this cuisine up on hard and forceful guitar reefs, as well as on violent drums, we will get a cocktail that blows up right before our eyes.

Some of these songs could be heard at Foma's performances back in 2014. Time flies, sure – now there are more of them. Because the theme remains unchanged – the war, which came about then, lasts as of the eve of 2018, when the album is finally released. The country is painfully transforming itself. The price is loss of illusions, inoculated so long ago and so deeply...

It would seem that with such a title one should expect from the album if not pink tears with ruffles – then, in any case, some average ballads. But "Rock-H" from the very beginning stood out against the background, and this time, too, they do not disappoint.

Even though "Wonderful World" seems to continue the trend of combining rock aesthetics with ethnics – now it sounds different. It sounds as if the band was able to rethink and synthesize all the previous groundwork – thus, when Oleh Skrypka defines this new piece as "velvet symphonic punk", that is not that much of an exaggeration..

..It’s hard to pinpoint exact influences that aptly mirror what Dark Patrick is going for here, though a safe bet would want to include nods to numerous strata of organic electronica, soundtrack ambient, world ethnotronica, psych and trip-hop. Well, finally a new disc by the boyan Zhyvosyl – Vasyl Lyuty – has appeared. I think that anyone who had already heard his songs before could not help waiting for something new.
