"Blinded with grandeur of the Ukrainian brick architecture, we so often fail to notice masterpieces of wooden architecture located in remote areas and not catching our eye. Fancy guidebooks mostly include descriptions of brick buildings in Kyiv, Lviv, Odessa... While existence of the pearls from live timber in a particular village is often only known to residents of the village.

Quite a lot of academic researches on the topic of Ukrainian wooden churches have been published, but they are mostly intended for a narrow circle of experts and do not reach the general public. So, now you have a book in front of you that reveals our wooden churches almost "as if in life", not in scanty dim black and white photos of academic publications. To see most of those remaining following the author's explanations, to understand what the Ukrainian wooden church is and why it is considered a unique artistic phenomenon, to try to discern general trends and local schools of the churches that have been existing in our land for several hundred years.
