ONUKA is a new project created by the famous Ukrainian electronic musician Eugene Filatov (frontman of The Maneken) and Nata Zhyzhchenko, former vocalist of Tomato Jaws (Ukraine) and KOOQLA (Russia).
In the summer of 2013 the artists began the recording process of their first single "Look". Eugene composed the music and played the drums, bass and keyboard parts and Nata wrote the lyrics, recorded the vocals and flute part. The complete band ONUKA includes vocals, keyboards, electronic drums, two trombones, french horn, and bandura (Ukrainian traditional instrument).
The name ONUKA means "granddaughter" in Ukrainian. It pays tribute to Nata’s grandfather, Alexander Shlyonchyk, who was one of the great masters that produced traditional musical instruments. His most famous work is the restoration of Taras Shevchenko’s kobza (also Ukrainian traditional instrument).
