"Olexander Levkovych's stile can be characterized as vivid, colorful and original. His works are composed in a very modern manner utilizing a serial technique, while being simple and romantic. He applies the timbers of different instruments very well and experiments with orchestral sounds.

Elegy of Sorrow, words by Joseph Brodsky and Vladimir Nabokov, was written in 1993 at the request of Gennadiy Rozhdestvensky for the Stockholm Philarmonic Orchestra. The piece was performed in 2001 in Kyiv, by the "Kyiv Kamerata" conducted by Valeriy Matyukhin.
Chamber Cantata ¹1, words by Federico Garcia Lorca, was written in 1987 at the request of Valeriy Matyukhin and performed by the "Kyiv Kamerata".
Olexander Levkovych moved to Israel in 1990 and, in 1992, to Ontario, Canada. He was awarded a diploma of the IBLA Italian international composer's competition (1996), while in 2001 he won prize for the best music at the Nickel Film and Video Festival, an international cinema festival of documentary films in Canada. In 2006 he became composer-in-residence of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra (Ontario, Canada)." Hanna Lunina, musicologist (information from the release's polygraphy)

Soloists: Valeriy Buymister (baritone), Bohdana Pivnenko (violin), Dmytro Tavanets (piano), Oleksiy Vertynsky (narrator).

The edition contains an 8-page booklet with information about the composer, ensemble, soloists (in Ukrainian and English) , as well as about the pieces presented here (in Ukrainian). This disc is a component part of the series "The Anthology of the Modern Ukrainian Music", within which the best works by Skoryk, Sylvestrov, Stankovich, Zubytsky, Scherbakov, Kiva have been released. In the discs' design, works by the outstanding modern Ukrainian artist Ivan Marchuk were used.
