"Volodymyr Zubytsky (2.03.1953). He graduated from the Tchaikovsky Kyiv State Conservatory as bayanist (button accordionist), studying with Prof. V. Besfamilnov. He studied composition with Prof. M. Skoryk, as well as conducting with Prof. V. Hniedash. In 1975 he won 1 st prize at the Helsinki International Bayan Competition. In 1985 he was awarded a prize by UNESCO's Polish department for his requiem "Seven Tears". Volodymyr Zubytsky wrote many pieces in different genres – three operas, two ballets, four symphonies, four chamber symphonies, concerti for symphony orchestra and for folk orchestra, works for choir, pieces for bayan and orchestra, and jazz compositions. The Chamber Symphony "In memory of Borys Liatoshynsky" for fourteen strings (1985) is one of the best works of the 1980's in the Ukrainian chamber repertoire. Concerto for violin and orchestra (1978, 1990) is considered one of the best instrumental concerti among Ukrainian music. It is based on folk themes of traditional Ukrainian and Slavic music. All four parts of the concerto are written in a brilliant, virtuoso style and particularly in the violin solo." Hanna Lunina, musicologist (information from the polygraph of the disc) This disc is a component part of the series "The Anthology of the Modern Ukrainian Music", within which the best works by Skoryk, Sylvestrov, Stankovich, Kiva, Levkovich have been released. In the discs' design, works by the outstanding modern Ukrainian artist Ivan Marchuk were used.

Levkovych's stile can be characterized as vivid, colorful and original. His works are composed in a very modern manner utilizing a serial technique, while being simple and romantic. He applies the timbers of different instruments very well and experiments with orchestral sounds.

His "Meditation" is a symphony for a violoncello and a chamber orchestra. Meditation in a general sense is a state, a process and quality at the same time. Since a symphony is called to reproduce and to recreate the first, the second and the third, it is hopeless to reproduce the content. This music...

This disc was created on the eve of Mykola Lysenko's anniversary – and, perhaps, it should be emphasized that it is work by young performers. It's nice – both because they have managed to record and release this program, and because they chose him – Lysenko. Let us just keep it in mind that one can talk about it, or one can – do it. And it is done – well.

"The duo of H. Safonov and H. Strogan, – according to composer Stankovych, – is the highly-professional ensemble of musicians, who differ due to their rich culture, nice understanding of style and form, delicate test, capability of expression of wide imagination and emotional spectrum: from the finest lyricism to wild wide-open emotion..."

This is the feeling as if you look at a picture painted in cool tones – and suddenly you understand that it is warm, very saturated emotionally. Then the colors start creating another pattern... Actually, that is why it seems to us that this disc can become a source of significant pleasure for experienced connoisseurs as well.

The violoncello here lives a saturated live, breathes full breast, flies freely, whispers gently – a great number of colors and emotions are incarnated skillfully, exactly, elegantly. Yes – maybe, it is elegance that may be called one of main features of the album.

...music in their performance sounds bright, enchanting – and intimate. They play as though for the whole world – but also as if only for you and only now. However, the listener must also conscientiously perform his/her attentive, concentrated and relaxed work – otherwise, honest exchange will not be possible. Not to speak – to listen.
