"The first volume of works by Professor Vasyl Simovych – the outstanding Ukrainian philologist, public and cultural figure – contains linguistic articles and excerpts from the monograph that were written in different periods of the researcher's life and still remained largely unknown for the wider range of the intelligent Ukrainian community. Observations on the culture of the everyday speech in different layers of the Ukrainian society recorded by V.Simovych in the form of occasional editorial notes, short essays offer a unique linguistic picture of the epoch that has still not lost its cognitive and predictive value for modern linguists.

Over 40 articles published in this volume were published in various journals and cover the time from 1904 through 1942. In the special edition, they are collected and published for the first time.
